Welcome to my Blog....

Greetings...

Welcome to my blog. This is an ever-evolving dialogue of my minds eye. Largely unplanned and totally off the cuff, these individual nuggets of wisdom, nonsense and mind dumps follow no real pattern, other than to be as brutally honest and candid as possible.

The initial intent of this project was merely to diarise my experience of choosing to undergo major surgery on 30th October 2012 with the intent of being able to use the monologues to help other people facing a similar operation. As you’ll see, the operation has had a number of complications, some of which are still causing compromises and pain now, so this site won’t really provide much in the way of comfort for anyone looking to rest their fears.

The surgery was a ground-breaking procedure at Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea. I had my left fibula removed, along with  a significant amount of skin, tissue and blood supplies. They were used as donors to replace a defect created by a partial maxillectomy I had in 2003 because of a cancerous tumour (Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma) that had formed on a salivary gland on the roof of my mouth.

In short, the fibula bone replaced the removed gum and the skin and tissue was used to cover the hole left from having my hard palate removed. The bone had implants inserted before it was put into my mouth so a set of veneered teeth could be fixed on once the initial operation had been completed.

As I said, the operation was groundbreaking and when science is pushed into the unknown, there are risks. As you’ll read here, my journey has been far from plain sailing, at times pushing me to the point of dispair, but also giving me a level of inner peace I've never achieved before. I’ve used this blog as a sounding post, something to draw strength from, to let my mind dump its fears and to keep you all in touch with my mindless and considered thoughts.

So, the plan was to have finished this project long ago, but because the feedback has been so incredible I’m still writing, putting my memoirs out there and I’m still enjoying doing so. With my life now getting back on track, parenthood imminent and new businesses to run and grow I have more than just my health and cancer to write about. Which is probably refreshing news for those of you who’ve been here from the start.

This is me, as honest and open as I possibly can be. Enjoy, belong and share.

One Love

Jez
